Practice Insight: Week 3

Practice Insight

Article by Tom Green

The third combined practice of the HACL has been completed. The weather was wet to say the least but that didn’t put off nearly 40 players from working out. The session involved a series of more advanced contact drills (than those seen in previous weeks) designed to work on physical side of the game (blocking and tackling) along with positional drills and game scenarios and situations.

There were a lot of people who deserved to receive a mention in this article for the effort which was shown. Alasdair Howie from the Millburn Academy Eagles ended the day completely caked in mud and showed a strong physical performance throughout practice. The second player which has to be mentioned is Nathan Ross from the Charleston Academy Knights for his effort shown in the contact drills.

Practice Week 3Robbie Paulin, Youth Development Officer commented, “There was a big improvement in the intensity from the players this week.  I’ve seen a lot of work done during the mid week practices that I have attended and this clearly showed during drills and in the team periods too.  The Charleston Academy Knights stepped things up this week.  They have the smallest squad size out of all the league teams and have had problems with injuries but the players and coaches are holding things together and are still putting out a strong side each week.  Next week is our last combined practice before the games kick off on 8 February.”
