Youth Practice Insight: Week 2

Practice Insight

On Saturday the Youth Wildcats participated in their second full practice as a team since the Highland Academy Community League. Just like last week the offence were instructed to wear black practice tops and the defence were instructed to wear red practice tops.

After signing into The Blitz most of the offence were told to go into the large changing room where they installed some plays in a whiteboard sessions with Coach James Hudson and the defence, along with more experienced offense players went to the green room for video analysis session of last week’s practice with Coach Robbie Paulin and Davie Grant. After both groups had finished going through their material both sets of players headed onto the field to walkthrough then onto warm-up.  The players then split up into their various positions where they participated in drills specific to their position on the field.

The offensive drills were undertaken by James Hudson, Ewan Sime and Loudon Wheeler whilst Chris Shaw and Robbie Paulin coached the defensive unit and Davie Grant coached the lineman. The players then went through limited contact scrimmage situations on the field in two separate scrimmage groups.

The Youth Wildcats weren’t the only players who were training at the Blitz on Saturday though. A group of Junior players were getting a workout at The Blitz during their own time too. The group was organised by Erem Demirel and Jamie Anderson.

Over 30 youth players trained at The Blitz on the day whilst 5 injured players showed up to watch the session and learn their playbooks which had been handed out to them on the day. The weather was fairly pleasant and dry which made it enjoyable not just to the players but also the voluntary staff (Dave Paulin, Marion Macloed and Daniel Woodley).
