Paulin commented, “We had so many opportunities to see our players in action to make the best decision possible.  The Community League allowed us to see the players in game time and select our practice squad of 36 from there.  The Wildcats practices that followed, along with the Spring Camp, gave us the opportunity to progress the players further and see how they coped with the added tactics and more advance skills.  We really feel this is a strong 21!  But the players that didn’t make it this time have all progressed really well too and I’m looking forward to seeing them compete – along with a few of the main squad – in the Development game the following week against the Moray Tide on 4 May.”

“I was really pleased to be able to pick a couple of the younger guys like Caleb Cairney and Euan Trommino as they’ve shown a lot of dedication and effort so far and I think it will be a good chance for them to gain a lot of experience for future years in the team.”

“Joe Eaglesham is our only cross over from our Junior squad but we felt that it would be a good opportunity for him to develop by playing some games in the Youth Wildcats.  He’s new to the sport but a fantastic athlete and will be a great addition to the squad on 26 April!”

The players were also told if they would get the chance to participate in the Development Game on 4 May against the Moray Tide.  The team stepping onto the field in this match up is as follows:

“This Development Game, along with other events like it throughout the season, will give players the chance to show us what they can do in a game situation and perhaps make the step up to the main squad.  We’re also using it as an opportunity to try less experienced players from the main squad in different position and to give them a little more game time in less pressured situations.” Paulin continued.

The Youth and Junior Wildcats are on the last stretch in preparation for the 2014 season and this week meet on Thursday at Millburn Academy (home of Highland Bowl Champions, the Millburn Academy Eagles) for a session with top Sports Psychologist, Donald MacNaughton.

The team captains for the Youth Wildcats will be announced on Saturday, 19 April.
