As part of the Positive Life Pathways project the Wildcats Youth Development Officer held another Young People’s Panel meeting at The Blitz ealier today. The scheme aims to get young people within the Wildcats aged between 14-18 more involved in the decisions and running of the organisation and it’s projects.
Today the group discussed and planned an add on to the Highland Academy Community League that will see the 5 league teams competing in the Summer school term, this time involving S1 and S2 pupils playing Flag Football. The teams will be run by players and coaches from the main HACL that took place earlier this year.
The group discussed how they will recruit for the school flag teams, when the sessions will take place and the exit routes into other Wildcats projects.
This new project will allow the young volunteers a chance to gain hours for the Saltire Awards scheme along with a specially set up Challenge Award too. It was also thought that some of the older players in this new Flag league would transition into the main HACL season when it kicks off in early 2015.
The group decided to apply for some funding to buy coaches’ uniforms, MVP prizes and travel costs.
HACL Summer Flag will start on week beginning 28 April and each school will practice once a week for 5 weeks then take part in a tournament before the end of the Summer term.
