bucs 2The Wildcats went into the opening game of the Inverclyde tournament off the back of victory in the Moray tournament with confidence high. This was evident from the start of the match as on the first play,  Seumas Ross rushed the full length of the field to score the opening touchdown. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful and the score was 6-0 to the Wildcats.

The Buccaneers then had possession of the ball but they were turned over on downs by the Wildcats defense. On the opening play of the following drive Seumas Ross scored a 45 yard rushing touchdown (from the wildcats 5 yard line) to double the score. Mark Pyper then received a pass from Quarterback Euan Crawford to put the score at 14-0 to the Defending Scottish Champions

The Wildcats managed to turn the ball over on downs resulting in them taking back possession of the ball. On the Wildcats drive they took the ball just past the half way line due to the efforts of Alasdair Howie and Mark Pyper who then scored a rushing  touchdown from 27 yards out. Pyper then scored a two point conversion from a rushing play to put the score at 22-0.

On the following drive the Buccaneers couldn’t gain the progression they required and had the ball turned over on downs. On the Wildcats drive that followed, Mark Pyper took the ball up near the half way line and then scored a 27 yard touchdown on the following play. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful but it meant that the Wildcats were now 28-0 up at the two minute warning.

After the two minute warning the Buccaneers had possession of the ball but Fergus MacKenzie scored a safety on defense to put the score up to 30-0 to the Wildcats as well as earning possession of the ball. On the opening play of the Wildcats drive Seumas Ross scored a 45 yard touchdown to increase the score to 36-0. Colin Hamilton then caught the ball to score a 1 point conversion to put make it 37-0 towards the end of the half.

The Buccaneers managed to get back in the match just before half time with a passing touchdown. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful but it left the score at 37-6 at the half time break.

Hamilton started the second half in possession of the ball. Unfortunately for the Bucs the ball was turned over on downs and the Wildcats were back on offense. Ross scored a 45 yard touchdown but unfortunately the conversion attempt was unsuccessful but the score was now 43-6 to the Wildcats.

On the following drive Fergus MacKenzie scored a defensive touchdown which increased the score to 49-6. Thomas MacKenzie caught the ball in the endzone to covert it which put the score at 50-6. On the next drive the Buccaneers scored a touchdown when their number 57 picked up his second receiving touchdown of the game. The Wildcats were then unable to stop Hamilton from scoring a 1 point conversion and the score was now 50-13 to the Wildcats.

bucs 3On the next drive Kyle Holleyoake managed to gain some big yards (24 yards on one of the plays) in the drive but the Wildcats were unable to score. During the next drive Fergus Macrae recovered a fumbled ball to give the Wildcats back possession of the ball. On that following drive Euan Trommino received the ball in open space to score a 4 yard receiving touchdown.

Stephen Mcmeechan scored a defensive touchdown when he made the Buccaneers quarterback fumble the ball in the endzone where he then recovered the ball. Kyle Holleyoake then scored the one point conversion to make the score 63-13 to the Wildcats.

On the final play of the game Euan Trommino received the ball in open space to score a 10 yard receiving touchdown. Although the conversion attempt was unsuccessful it meant that the Wildcats won 69-13 to increase their winning streak to four games.

The Most Valuable Player was Mark Pyper for this match because of his impact on both sides of the ball.
