Longhorns Preview

Article by Tom Green…

This Sunday the junior squad will take to the field against the Lanarkshire Longhorns in the opening game of the 2014 season. Earlier this year the team set their sights on making the playoffs and potentially winning the Scottish championship. They will first have to overcome last years Northern Division league leaders at Beltane Park, Wishaw.

Lanarkshire have currently had the perfect start to the season with a comprehensive 64-0 victory over the East Kilbride Pirates at Beltane Park followed by a victory  over the Clackmannanshire Ravens (by default). As a result of this the Longhorns will probably be feeling confident ahead of the match.

Last season the Wildcats managed to be the only team in then regular season not to be defeated by the Longhorns when they held them to a 6-6 tie at the Bught Park, Inverness. Although the Inverness based side were defeated in last years match at Wishaw by the narrowest of margins in a tightly fought match which resulted in a 14-8 victory to the Longhorns. The Junior Wildcats have had many changes since last season and  have the potential to ruin the Longhorns ambitions of a perfect regular season once again.

15 weeks of practice will come to fruition on Sunday.  Hopefully all hard work from all the players, coaches and volunteers will bear its fruits in one the closest match up in the regular season.
