Following the two wins over East Kilbride and Hamilton the Wildcats went into the final game against hosts Edinburgh.
It started well for the visitors with Euan Crawford passing the ball 13 yards down the field to Euan Trommino for the first touchdown of the game. Unfortunately the point attempt was unsuccessful but it meant the visiting Wildcats had the lead. Not long after the pass, the Wildcats managed to double their lead after Alex Macpherson picked off a loose pass from the Wolves QB and run it into the endzone. Yet again the extra points attempt was unsuccessful.
Not content with just the two touchdowns, the Wildcats pressed on and scored 3 more without reply. The first of which was scored by Mark Pyper. The second was a passing play from Crawford to Pyper (extra point attempt incomplete). And the third was a pass from Crawford to Trommino from 12 yards.
The Wolves fought back with a touchdown of their own to try and get the momentum on their side. Unfortunately for the Wolves the Wildcats scored two more touchdowns in the half. The first was scored by rookie running back Callum McCadden who rushed it in for 35 yards and the second was a 12 yard pass from Pyper to rookie Lewis Hilditch (none of these touchdowns were converted for extra points). Just before half time the Wolves scored another touchdown to leave the score at 34-13 heading into the break.
The second half was a lot tighter defensively than the first by both teams. However the visitors did find a way to score two more touchdowns before the full time whistle. The first of these touchdowns was a 5 yard pass from Pyper to Crawford. The last of the game’s touchdowns was a pass from rookie quarterback James Maclean to centre Colin Hamilton. None of these touchdowns were converted for extra points and when the game clock ran out the score read Highland Wildcats 46-12 Edinburgh Wolves.
