After the win over the Hamilton Buccaneers, the Youth Wildcats played the East Kilbride Pirates. Last season, whilst the Highland Wildcats won Britbowl, the Pirates managed to finish as 4th best in the country.
Despite this the Highlanders started the game off strongly with a 45 yard rushing touchdown from Mark Pyper, who then went on to convert his own touchdown with a solid 12 Yard rush to put the score at 8-0. East Kilbride responded quickly after this with a touchdown of their own. Unfortunately the Pirates couldn’t level the score but they narrowed the gap in the game to just two points.
It turned out to be the closest EKP would get to winning this game as the Youth team stepped up a gear and started to pile on the points. The first touchdown after the EKP score was a 9 yard rush from Kyle Holleyoake. Holleyoake then converted his own touchdown for two points which left the score at 16-6 to Highland. The only other touchdown of the half was scored by Pyper who ran into the endzone for a 21 yard touchdown. Euan Crawford then passed it to Stephen Mcmeechan during the extra point attempt. This left the score at half time 24-6 to the Inverness based team.
Crawford then scored his first passing touchdown of the game right after the half finding receiver Kyle Holleyoake in the endzone. Unfortunately the conversion attempt was no good but the gap between the two sides was now 24. Straight after this score East Kilbride achieved a second touchdown to put the board at 30-12.
After the EKP touchdown, Crawford threw a 45 yard touchdown to receiver Euan Trommino to increase the size of the already bloated lead. Crawford then converted the touchdown by hitting Holleyoakein the endzone. After this, Holleyoake scored another touchdown for the Wildcats, this time running the ball 27 yards. He then received a pass from Crawford to convert his own touchdown for two points to increase the score to 46-12.
Following this touchdown, rookie receiver Efem Demirel scored his first Wildcats touchdown in only his second play after receiving a 5 yard pass from Mark Pyper. Linebacker Lewis Taylor then finished off the scoring with a safety before the end of the game. This left the final score at 54-12 heading into the final game of the tournament.
