4th Quarter

The Highland Wildcats finished off the regular season undefeated after beating the Clackmannanshire Ravens 40-0 in a convincing victory. As a result of this win the Wildcats have qualified for the Scottish Championship game as they are the first seed in the Scottish League.

The Wildcats won the coin toss and elected to receive the ball. The drive was set up by Declan Maclennan who returned the opening kick-off for 35 yards. They made the most of it straight away as running back Stephen McMeechan ran in for a 5 yard touchdown. This was unconverted but it laid down the foundations for the rest of the game. On the following drive the Ravens offense was shut down by the experienced Wildcats defense.

They were then forced to punt the ball and it was returned 12 yards by Declan Maclennan to set up the Wildcats next drive. This time the Wildcats used the passing game which led to Euan Crawford throwing a 15 yard touchdown to receiver Declan Maclennan for his 12th passing touchdown of the season. This unfortunately was not converted but it put the hosts lead into double figures.

The Ravens still couldn’t overcome the Wildcats defense and were forced yet again to punt.

The Wildcats then continued to dominate the game and Maclennan trebled the Highlanders lead to 18 points after he ran in for a 10 yard rushing touchdown. This time the touchdown was converted as Euan Crawford managed to find wide receiver Ewan Sime on the end of a three yard touchdown pass.

The Wildcats defense still continued to dominate the game and managed to score a touchdown of their own when linebacker Alasdair Howie picked off a Ravens pass near mid field and rushed it in. The touchdown was sadly unconverted but it left the lead at 26-0 at the end of the quarter.

The Ravens offense continued to struggle but their defensive unit improved dramatically in the 2nd quarter with the Wildcats only managing to get short gains of yardage. The biggest Highland play of the quarter was a gritty 8 yard rush from Stephen McMeechan. Because of this the 2nd quarter remained scoreless throughout.

After the half time break the Wildcats offensive unit managed to overcome the power of the Clackmannanshire defense. This resulted in another touchdown for the Highland team as Euan Crawford threw a spectacular 28 yard passing touchdown to veteran receiver Ewan Sime. This touchdown was converted by Crawford who passed it to Sime for a 3 yard pass.

Towards the end of the quarter the Wildcats managed to stretch their lead to 40 points as Euan Crawford threw a 2 yard touchdown pass to Thomas Mackenzie. This was Crawford’s 16th touchdown pass of the year which means he has broken the Wildcats single season passing touchdown record at junior level. The Previous record was held by Chris Shaw last year who threw 13 touchdown passes.
