The Highland Academy Community League was set up to get more competition, in American football, for young people in the Inverness area. Inspired by the Bristol Academy Community League, five high schools in the Inverness area competed to win the Highland Bowl. The 2014 season saw the Millburn Academy Eagles come out on top and crowned champions in the first ever season. In 2015 the Black Isle Stags joined the five original HACL teams. Charleston Academy Kinights and Inverness High School made it to Highland Bowl II and the Predators eventually came out on top and were crowned Highland Champions 2015. Their highlight video from the 2015 season is below.
The project was originally supported by The Carpet Emporium, PJC Entertainment and Osteo Centra, along with a sportsmatch grant from sportscotland. This cash injection, along with stock equipment from the Highland Wildcats, means each player is provided with their own jersey, shoulder pads, helmet and all other safety equipment needed to play in the league. HACL is also fully backed by Active Schools and the British American Football Association.
